Blade Shape is a mix of design and function. As expected, the larger the total blade area, the more water it will push and the more difficult it will be to move through the water. Blade Shape also affects the way the paddle moves through the water, the durability, and the strength of the blade. All of our blades have similar total blade area. However, if our blade size doesn't fit your need, let us know.
You can choose from the Beavertail, Ottertail, Voyager, and Algonquin. The Beavertail and Ottertail Blade Shapes are very common and for good reason. They provide a large total blade area for excellent performance and rounded edges for abrasion resistance. The Ottertail has a smaller blade tip which enters the water with a smaller area and is typically a more quiet paddle.
The Voyageur and Algonquin styles are older designs that you may not see on an every day paddle. The Voyageur paddle, as the name implies, goes back to the voyageur era in North American history. The Algonquin is a Blade Shape similar to the paddles commonly used by the Native American Algonquin group. These blades add style and class to your paddle, but are also very functional and perform well.
